Alice Marie (Haggerty) Kennedy, Mother of the late Rev. Daniel J. Kennedy, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the age of 76 in her Needham home. She was the beloved wife of Daniel Joseph Kennedy for 47 years.
Born in Chicopee on Tuesday, August 22, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles Joseph Haggerty and Alice Helen (McCarthy) Haggerty. Raised in Chicopee, she graduated with high honors from West Springfield High School.
Alice worked as the Sales Manager for Carborundum Corporation in West Springfield from 1957 to 1969 and then dedicated herself to raising her five children.
As a resident of Westfield, she was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and was active in the Parent Teachers Association at St. Mary’s School.
In 1982, she moved to Needham where she was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and was also involved with St. Joseph School.
Alice also managed Dennis Seashores Resort Complex on Cape Cod from 1990 until 2007.
A devout Catholic, she was selected in 1987 to co-chair the Cardinals Archdiocese Educational Committee with Bishop Daniel Hart. One of Alice’s happiest days was May 26, 2007, when her son, Danny was ordained to the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Boston.
Alice’s primary interests were her five children, her Catholic faith and helping others in need. In addition to raising her family, she loved to play golf, but most of all, she treasured spending summers at her Dennisport home and frequent trips to Ireland.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Kathleen M. Kennedy-Collins and her husband, Max, of Westwood, Patricia A. Kennedy of Needham, Anne Marie Russell and her husband, David, of Brockton, John F. Kennedy and his wife, Elizabeth, of CT and the late Rev. Daniel J. Kennedy; her grandchildren, Ashley T. Kennedy, John B. Kennedy, Celia E. Kennedy and Daniel F. Russell; her sisters, Elizabeth Harlow and Eleanor Masi and her husband, Emil, all of ME; her sister-in-law, Judith E. Kennedy of Chicopee; she is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Information
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul on Monday at 11:00AM in St. Joseph Church, 1382 Highland Ave., Needham. Interment will be held on TUESDAY at 11:30AM in St. Mary Cemetery, Westfield. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave., Needham on Sunday from 2:00-6:00PM.
